What to do if you have a frozen windscreen

Many car owners have experienced frozen windscreens on a cold wintery morning and are aware that it will set you back more than a couple of minutes. Having the correct equipment to be able to fully de-ice all your windows is vital to ensure you're able to see all around your vehicle.

You may hear many methods about de-icing a car from other car owners but you need to stay away from doing any of the following:

• Pouring boiling hot water over your cars windscreen in order to melt the ice is a method that most car owners think is effective. This does a number of things but doesn't help in the slightest when trying to de-ice a frozen windscreen. Placing two extreme water temperatures on top of each other will firstly cause the boiling water to freeze on your windscreen and make it even harder to de-ice. In addition to this it can also crack your windscreen if the boiling water gets into underlying cracks and expands as it freezes. This can result in you having to fork out to repair your windscreen and you're still no further to de-icing your frozen windscreen.
• Using your car's heater, although unorthodox does de-ice your windscreen but it can be very time consuming and waste fuel. In addition to this it also wears out your engine and makes it harder for your car to start. Using this method is certainly not the best way to de-ice your frozen windscreen and it's advised to get out of your car and scrape, however much you don't want to.
• Don't use credit cards or CD cases to scrape your window with; the sharp corners can scratch your windscreen and end up costing you more in repairing scratches than it would buying a windscreen scrapper which would last you a lifetime. There are many cheap ice scrappers on the market and they're designed not to scratch your windscreen but to effectively take the ice from it.

The best way to clear your frozen windscreen is using de-icer spray and an ice scrapper. Spray the de-icer spray onto the whole of your windscreen and then use the ice scrapper to get rid of the remains, simple! It's the most effective and quickest way to get rid of the ice on your windscreen; all you need is two pieces of cheap equipment!
