4 advantages and disadvantages of taking manual driving lessons Sheffield

Deciding between automatic and manual driving lessons Sheffield is a hard decision. Sheffield is a huge place and unlike many other cities it has a lot of complex situations to deal with, ones which would be easier without having to change gears.

Disadvantages of manual driving lessons Sheffield:

  1. Taking manual driving lessons in Sheffield takes longer than automatic lessons because you have more to learn. Not only do you have to learn how to drive safely but you also have to learn how to control the gears in a manual car.
  2. A manual car which isn't drove properly can consume more fuel than an automatic car. You need to drive your car correctly and switch gears at the right time so you don't over-rev the car. In a diesel you should be switching up at around 2000 revs and petrol a little higher at 2500.
  3. Manual car tests have a lot lower pass rates than automatic tests because there is more to fail on when driving a manual car. If you don't change gear at the correct time you could stall in a dangerous place and automatically fail, whereas with an automatic it isn't possible to stall so you avoid this hazard all together.
  4. Some pupils that struggle driving in a manual transition try driving an automatic car instead. A manual transition can sometimes be a bit too hard to get to grips with for some pupils. Learning how to drive in an automatic car is a great deal simpler than driving a manual, for some it's the perfect choice.

Advantages of taking manual driving lessons are:

  1. After passing your test in a manual car you're then licensed to be able to drive both automatic and manual transitions. This doesn't work vice versa and automatic drivers are bound to driving automatic cars.
  2. Manual drivers have to pay more attention to the road and therefore become more aware of their surroundings than drivers who drive an automatic. Although this isn't always the case it's better for a first time driver to drive a manual, they have to be more aware of their surroundings and analyse the road.
  3. Manual cars also use less fuel than automatic cars when drove properly. As mentioned earlier you should change up at the correct time to conserve fuel as much as possible.
  4. Some pupils prefer driving manual cars because it's more challenging for them to drive. Manual cars keep the pupil more aware and this is what some need. You may drift off when driving an automatic car and this is something that you can't afford to do when driving.
It's down to personal choice whether you prefer taking automatic or manual driving lessons. They both have advantages and disadvantages and it depends what as a pupil you're looking for from your driving tuition.
