5 bad driving habits that senior drivers pick up

With age comes bad driving habits as your senses and memory starts to deteriorate. It doesn't mean you should stop driving, it just means you have to pay more attention to what you're doing and plan further in front to give yourself more time to react. Here are the top 5 bad driving habits that you need to watch out for when becoming a senior driver!

First, not using indicators and changing lanes without looking. At one point in your driving life you will be cut up by another driver, just make sure when you become a senior driver, or even before this you aren't the person cutting others up due to not indicating or checking before you switch lanes. On your driving lessons you're taught how to switch lanes correctly without causing other drivers any inconvenience, use what you're taught when driving on your own.

Usually when you get older your reaction time lessen and more of the near misses become accidents as you don't react quickly enough. Make sure that you don't have these near misses that turn into accidents by planning further in front. Also don't use things in the car that may distract you whilst driving as it's a terrible driving habit, for example changing the radio station, or putting an address into your sat nav. Do all this before you set off so you have a safe and pleasant journey.

The next bad driving habit that senior drivers usually pick up is driving below the speed limit. You're taught on your driving lessons Manchester to always go the speed limit if it's safe and clear to do so but this usually slips with older drivers as they're happy to just slowly move along. Make sure you don't go too slow on roads and don't travel in the right hand lane unless making progress on someone.

Older drivers usually hesitate at junctions and this is bad habit number four. When there is clearly enough room to go you should and hesitation would get you a minor fault on your driving test. Make sure you're aware when on the road so you don't hesitate at junctions and roundabouts.

The final bad driving habit is that older drivers have a tendency to have a lack of attention on the road. This also seems to occur in younger drivers and comes back with age. Keeping focused on the road at all times is hard especially on long journeys. If you're making a long journey be sure to have regular stops along the way to give yourself a break.

You're taught well on your driving lessons in Manchester to ensure that these good habits stick with you throughout your whole driving life. Be sure to apply all of your good driving habits when on the road.
