What Happens if I Get Caught Speeding after taking My Driving Lessons in Leeds and Passing My Driving Test
The most common mistake after taking your driving lessons Leeds and passing your driving test is getting too excited about it and speeding through a speed camera. But then what happens? Well there are a number of different things that can come of speeding.
Firstly a fixed penalty can be given this is called a Notice of Intended prosecution. Fixed penalties are the lightest penalty you can receive for speeding and you usually get these for going around 15-25 mph over the speed limit. Although this is not set in stone it is only a rough guide if you do speed you are in the hands of the police and possibly the courts their decision will determine where it goes from there. You normally receive 3 points on your licence and a £60 pound fine, so just try and avoid speeding because if anyone does get a total of 12 points and you can lose your driving licence and you may have only just got it!
However if it is a first offence you are likely to be offered to go to a speed awareness course instead of the 3 points. This can be very beneficial in terms of what will be learnt on the course which for whatever reason may have being forgotten or maybe you don’t remember being taught it when you were in the process of taking your driving lessons.
Even if you are offered to go on the course although the 3 points are waived you still have to pay the £60 for the administration costs in dealing with the course from where you will be educated on speeding and the effects it could have on other road users.
For a more serious offence Summons are given and this is usually given if you exceed the speed limit by more than 25 mph. Whilst learning to drive your driving instructors should always try and get the accelerator happy drivers to calm down so they avoid speeding penalties and fines once they have passed their driving test. When given a summons you are called to the magistrate’s court and you are at a greater risk of higher penalties, they have the power to fine you up to £1000 on non-motorways and up to £2500 on motorways. Instead of getting 3 points you are also at the risk of receiving 6 points on your driving licence or even banned from driving altogether!
After taking your driving lessons in Leeds the best advice for avoiding speeding offences is just not to do it! It is dangerous and not worth the punishment just for saving a few minutes!
