Should learners be allowed on the motorway?

When learning to drive you aren't allowed to drive on a motorway until you have a full licence and this is what is called a pass plus course that you can choose to take after your driving test. Most tend not to take a pass plus as it isn't forced upon them to do so, but some think motorway driving should be practiced even before the driving test has been passed to ensure that pupils are getting motorway driving experience.

Many driving schools Leeds do encourage their pupils to take the pass plus course as it involves motorway, country and city centre driving, all which aren't in the driving syllabus but will probably be encountered by the pupil at some point in their driving life.

Motorways can be very daunting to a new driver, especially when they don't have a professional by their side any more. Motorway traffic moves very fast and therefore can be very dangerous for someone who has never been on one before. Allowing learner drivers on the motorway would ensure that they practice on the motorway with an experienced driver and therefore it would become nothing new to them.

However drivers who haven't passed their driving test can be very nervous on the road, some may deal with motorways better than others and with such fast paced traffic most say that letting learner drivers on the motorway is too risky and may endanger other drivers using the motorway.

Placing motorway driving on the driving syllabus would also make the driving test a lot longer as they must travel to a motorway and back testing all the other things on the driving syllabus, plus the pass rate may decline even more!

Another suggestion about learners been allowed on the motorway is if they were only allowed on with registered ADI instructors. This way they would be with an experienced driving teacher who could spot danger from a mile away and avoid it. It would also calm the pupil down knowing that they were sat beside someone who could take control of the car at any point.

Driving schools in Leeds and all over the UK support motorway driving for learners to be compulsory as they're very dangerous places and new drivers need to know how to handle them correctly and safely. But without being allowed on the motorway until they have passed their driving test makes it very hard to make practice on them compulsory.
