Driving in the rain on your Driving Lessons Leeds

Driving whilst in the rain will only become dangerous if you don't take the necessary precautions needed to keep you safe

When on your Driving Lessons Leeds you should be taught how to drive in the rain, chances are that you will have a driving lesson in the rain and your instructor will then teach you how to drive safely.

Driving in the rain isn't enormously different but there are a few things you should know and be aware of. Firstly your 2 second rule now becomes a 4 second rule. Double the distance that you would normally have from car in front because in wet weather conditions the road becomes slippery and it takes you longer to stop.

Always turn your lights on when it is raining. It usually becomes fairly dark and visibility is reduced in the rain which makes it harder for you to see other drivers and for them to see you. Even if it is the middle of the day we would advise you to do this, their is no harm in putting your lights on, there might be in not doing so. You have different kinds of lights on your car for different situations, and you should have been taught these on your controls driving lessons.

Put your blowers on warm, make sure that your front, side or rear windows are completely free of any mist and that all around the car is visible. The worst thing you can do is to drive with two little eye holes in your windscreen. It is very dangerous as you can't see anything else around you, as well as this you may have a lack of perception.

Taking bends slower than you normally would will avoid the risk of skidding and loosing control at them. This may seem obvious to some people, but other not as much but this can save peoples lives, if in doubt just slow down.

Watch out for big puddles on the road. If they're deep enough and big enough you can loose control of your car. When approaching these either try and avoid them, or if they are unavoidable slow right down. The water causes your tyres to skid and your wheels will fell very light.

When driving in the rain make sure you take all of these tips into account and you won't have any trouble. If conditions get too bad, then all you have to do is find a safe convenient and legal place to pull over until they improve.
