Are Young Drivers Too Young in Leeds
As you probably are aware the driving age in Leeds and all over the UK is 17, 16 if you carry certain disabilities, but many think that this is too young for people to be on the road. It is very hard to draw a line as to when a young person is mature enough to be in control of a vehicle as we mature at different ages.
But is 17 really too young to drive? The driving age in America differs from state to state, but some are driving from the young age of 14 years of old! Some that support this think that learning how to drive and been given the responsibility of driving matures a person quicker. But is this really the view that the people of Leeds and the UK take?
As it stands at the moment in the UK it doesn't look like the driving age is going to budge neither up nor down unless society demands it does. Taking driving lessons teaches pupils how to be safe when on the road, but whether they choose to be so is up to them. The majority of accidents on the road are down to a young driver’s inexperience or immaturity, so why not raise the driving age and stop this from happening? Young male drivers aged 17-20 are seven times more likely to have an accident that all other male drivers. As the statistics show young drivers are more likely to be in an accident, but is it unfair to stereotype all young people in Leeds or the UK like this? Most driving instructors would say that they have taken many young people on their driving lessons in Leeds and they have been very good, safe drivers; so why punish everyone for the odd few.
One idea has been circulated of a young person’s driving licence which restricts them from driving past certain hours on a night which may encourage anti-social behaviour, or always having to drive with an experienced driver in the car. But would this really stop the accidents? You can't demand that they always travel with a professional instructor in the vehicle looking out for dangers and potential hazards, as a regular driver may not be able to do anything to stop these accidents. However recent road surveys have shown that young drivers are 17 times more likely to have an accident between the hours of 2am and 5am.
It is very hard to answer the question of are young drivers too young. When do you allow a driver to become unsupervised after their driving lessons Leeds? Many people have many different opinions on the issue and you will never get them to agree or compromise, and so as it stands young drivers are going to stay at the age of 17 in Leeds and the rest of the UK.
