Applying for your tax disc or declaring SORN after your Driving Schools York
When on the road you must have tax on the car that you are driving and this is shown by you displaying a tax disc in your window. SORN stands for Statutory Off Road Notification and your driving instructors should know all about this and might explain it to you on your if you ask about it.
SORN basically means that you wish to declare that your vehicle is no longer on the road. If you wish to do this then just visit the Direct Gov website and you can either apply for a tax disc or declare SORN, this is a very simple process.
SORN is valid for 12 months but usually the owner of the car taxes, sells, permanently exports or scraps the car before these 12 months are up. You must tell the DVLA if you are not using the vehicle so it can be placed on SORN and if you are wondering where SORN is stated it is in the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002.
To declare SORN you need the logbook of your car in order to give the DVLA the vehicle’s 11 digit reference number. You should not declare SORN if you have sold, permanently exported or scrapped your car, it is only if you aren’t using it.
On the other hand if you want to apply for a tax disc for your car then you can also do that online in the same place you declare SORN. All you have to do is fill in a questionnaire and provide some details of the car in order to receive a tax disc. The price of the tax will depend on the car you are taxing and some are more expensive than others, but you can’t drive your car without getting a tax disc or you could be fined and points will be added to your licence as well as you being at risk of losing your car.
You can apply for a tax disc for either 6 or 12 months and the date that your disc runs out will be clearly shown on the front of it. If you look in your driving instructors York windscreen you will see their tax disc and how it is all set out.
Applying for you tax disc can be a very simple task when you understand what to do and if you need any further explanation then our driving schools in York will be happy to explain in further detail about applying for your tax disc.
